In a significant move, the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, flagged off the Valley Queen Heritage Train, connecting Marwar Junction to Khamlighat. Starting its journey from Marwar Junction at 8:30 am, the train glides to Kamlighat by 11:00 am. En route, it takes brief stops at Phulad and Goram Ghat stations, allowing passengers a 10-15 minute breather to soak in the surroundings. For the return leg, the train departs from Khambli Ghat at 3 pm and reaches Marwar Junction by 5:40 pm.
At a ticket price of INR 2,000, passengers are in for a treat. As they traverse through the state, the train showcases lush valleys, undulating hills, and a diverse array of flora and fauna. Adding to the allure, the route features two almost-century-old tunnels and a staggering 172 bridges arching over serene water streams. For those who have traveled this path before, the familiar metre gauge train from Marwar to Mavli will still be operational.
Shashi Kiran, the Chief Public Relations Officer of North-Western Railway, shared insights into this heritage venture with The Times of India, emphasizing its historical significance. “The track was already in place, but a new heritage train has been developed… a diesel engine has been modified to resemble a steam engine,” he said.
