Ajmal Hussain Usta
Mr. Ajmal Hussain is a renowned artist for Usta art from Bikaner. He is celebrated for his mastery in Usta art form, on which he has been working for the past 45 years. He learned this art form from a National Award-winning artist when he was just 13 years old. He has made a variety of items like frames, mirrors, boxes, vases, and lamps. He has also made about 200 different types of lamps and around 1,000 mirrors.

Usta art is a distinguished traditional craft from Rajasthan, India, particularly associated with the town of Bikaner. The Usta art traces its roots to the Mughal era when it flourished under royal patronage. The term “Usta” refers to skilled artisans who specialise in this intricate art form. This art reflects a blend of Persian and Indian styles, often depicting themes from Hindu mythology, folklore, and nature, characterized by fine detailing and the use of gold and silver leaf, which add a distinctive luminosity to the pieces. Usta art has gained recognition beyond India, attracting art enthusiasts and collectors worldwide, thus contributing to the sustainability of this traditional craft.
