Meet the Artist
Raj Kumar Pandey
Raj Kumar Pandey has been doing Sanganeri Block Printing for more than 25 years. He has been practising this craft since his childhood, carrying forward the unique Sanganeri block printing techniques he learnt from his father and grandfather.
He received National Merit by Ministry of Textile in 2004 for Block Printing Vegetable Dyes Saree which took a couple of months to make. He has represented his craft on various international and national events, contributing to the growing awareness and appreciation for block printing worldwide.
He is a master in not only making unique prints on fabric, but also enjoys teaching and passing on his learnings and experiences to students and art lovers.
He has hosted workshops with many institutions and SHGs like SOFT Pune, NIFT Delhi, NIFT Jodhpur, ITM University Gwalior, SMDT Mumbai, Pragati Self Help Group, Kerala Self help groups, and more.Â

Sanganeri Block printing is a 500-year-old craft form. The craft is so unique and can be done only in this specific area in Jaipur because the unique ambience and environment. The artisans of this craft come from the Shri Vitthal Namdev Chippa Samaj (community). Back then, the Maharaja of Rajasthan invited Block printing artists from Maharashtra, MP, and Gujarat, who later established here.
In the earlier times, Sanganeri Block printing was done with natural dyes. which were extracted from flowers and plants and trees. It’s now done through the pigment process with the use of ezo free colours because they are eco-friendly and doesn’t harms our skin. Heating and ironing is done so that all other oils vaporize from the colours.
The designs are usually floral and nature-inspired, and Mughal aesthetics.
