He has been honoured with many awards for his work in tie and dye, including two National Awards (1887 and 1889), the Haryana Government’s Kala Nidhi Award (1993), the Forex Award in Jaipur (2005), and a Heritage Festival Award.
Know more about the Art Form
Tie and dye leheriya is a traditional Rajasthani textile art known for its vibrant, wave-like patterns. This craft involves folding, tying, and dyeing fabric using natural dyes to create stunning designs that reflect the region’s rich cultural heritage. Each piece captures the essence of Rajasthan’s landscape and festive spirit.
The process begins with artisans skillfully folding the fabric and tying it tightly to create resist areas that remain undyed. After submerging the fabric in dye baths, the tied sections absorb colour, revealing intricate patterns once the ties are removed. The uniqueness of leheriya lies in its unpredictability, making each creation a one-of-a-kind work of art that continues to thrive in modern fashion and decor.
