Meet the Artist
Rakesh Vyas
Mr. Rakesh Vyas has participated in fairs and exhibitions both in Rajasthan and Delhi. He is a dedicated teacher who spends his time training children in schools and non-governmental organizations. Mr Vyas finds immense satisfaction in his work, which he believes is an investment in the future of the children he teaches. In his free time, he indulges in a creative pursuit of making Paper Mache designs on his terrace, regardless of the weather. He derives great pleasure from seeing both adults and children get involved in this art, even after initial hesitation. Watching the transformation from uncertainty to confidence in their abilities brings him immense joy.
Know more about the Art Form
Paper Mache means ‘chewed paper’, ‘pulped paper’, or ‘mashed paper’. It is a composite material. Not only does it consist of paper pieces or pulp but also sometimes reinforced with textiles, or bound with an adhesive, such as glue, starch, or wallpaper paste. Furthermore, artists make use of paper strips glued together with adhesive, and paper pulp obtained by soaking paper. Glue is then added.
Paper mache sculptures are used to create idols of Gods and Goddesses. In particular for various Hindu festivals like Durga Puja, Ganesh Chaturthi, and more.
