Know more about the Art Form
The craft of lac has been a big part of Rajasthan’s jewellery styles, colourful, delicate, and handcrafted. This craft is as old as the city of Jaipur, and Maharaja Ram Singh of Jaipur was a key contributor in flourishing this craft across Rajasthan. Lac is not only used for lac bangles and other jewellery items, but also in many decorative pieces.
This is one of the sustainable crafts, because lac is a natural substance excreted from the lac insect occurring on host trees in India. It is then mixed with various materials and colours, heated and used to create different items.
