Meet the Artist

Madhu Bhati

Madhu discovered her passion for embroidery in the early 1990s, driven by a strong desire to learn a traditional craft and become financially independent. She formally trained in Kashidakari through a six-month course at Zilla Udyog in 1992, and went on to showcase her work at government and Dastkar exhibitions. Over time, she began teaching the art to others, training batches of girls and helping them receive official certification. Her creativity also led her to explore gota patti work, which she first used to make a traditional Rajasthani poshak for herself. As more women showed interest, she began teaching gota patti too. Today, Madhu combines both embroidery and gota patti across fabrics and styles, keeping age-old techniques alive while inspiring a new generation of craftswomen.

Know more about the Art Form

Kashidakari is a vibrant hand embroidery style rooted in the rich textile traditions of Rajasthan. Kashidakari is known for its bold use of colour and detailed patterns. Often done on cotton or silk fabrics, it sometimes features tarkashi ke dhaage — metallic threads — to add a decorative shine. This embroidery is commonly seen on garments, home linens, and accessories, reflecting the region’s love for ornate and expressive craftsmanship.
