About the Experience

Exclusively curated for Mastercard cardholders

Pichhwai Paintings are intricate artworks, typically rendered on cloth or paper, that depict the life of Lord Krishna. This art form originates from the sacred town of Nathdwara, located in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Pichhwais serve the dual purpose of being visually appealing and narrating the tales of Krishna’s life. Hailing from this city is Master Artist Rajaram Sharma, renowned for his exceptional portrayals of Krishna’s stories.

This beautiful art tradition is 400 years old, illustrating various mythological accounts of Lord Krishna. The term “Pichwai” is derived from Sanskrit, where ‘pich’ means back and ‘wai’ refers to hanging. It signifies traditional paintings that are hung behind the idol of Shrinathji on the walls of temples in the Nathdwara district. Creating these paintings is a time-consuming process, often taking several weeks to months. Immerse yourself in the enchanting tales of Shrinathji, Krishna’s childhood form, through the exquisite Pichwai paintings—an art form with a 400-year history originating from Nathdwara. Meet master artist Rajaram Sharma, who began his training at the age of 13 under the guidance of the head of the Shrinathji temple and other accomplished Pichwai artists.

A chance to try your hands on a 400+ year-old painting, a chance to meet with a true master artist and a chance to experience art with natural colours! What else do you need to make your Udaipur itinerary a memorable one?
