Know more about the Art Form

Reflected in its stunning temple architecture, Sandalwood Carving is an art form that goes back centuries, with its origin in Uttar Pradesh. Later, the immensely talented artists used the skill to create small artefacts of daily use.

Rajasthan features different types of wood carvings. The most conspicuous of all is the sandalwood carvings. It can be seen in furniture items, decorative pieces, toys and household items. Craftsmen from the Jangid community craft sandalwood into profusely patterned, exquisitely intricate and highly decorative artefacts. The objects fashioned range from a one-inch-long supari, betel nut case, to a three-foot-tall doll.
