Meet the Artist
Kanhaiya Sharma
Kanhaiya Sharma comes from a hard-working middle-class family living in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. From a very young age, he was attracted towards this concept, this phenomenon of art. There was no particular major event or any life-changing incident which drove him to become an artist. He learned to use a paintbrush before he learned how to ride a bicycle. Painting and sculpting was his childhood hobby which later on, as time went by transformed into a habit, then became his passion and now – a career.
He often says that art is a way of communication, a way to express oneself, a way to present one’s thoughts, one’s emotions, it is a way of living. And the people who do so are known as artists. This realization is what makes him do what he does and he loves that.
Know more about the Art Form
Miniature paintings demonstrate a mini world of royal narratives and enchanting figurines. The miniatures require dedication and utmost precision to paint them. Every state has a miniature painting in its name and in Rajasthan as well, it continues to be popular.
Miniature Paintings of Rajasthan developed in the 16th Century. They depict the incredibly detailed enchanting visual narratives of royal festivities or mythological stories. Drawn on paper or sometimes ivory, the miniatures are painted with extremely delicate brushes. The paintings are small in size, but they are extremely detailed and elaborate and this requires a high degree of skill and experience. In the intricate design, there is no way to hide even a small brushstroke gone wrong.
